A little more green

Hi friends and family!
So Justin and I have been talking a lot about doing things around our home to be more environmentaly friendly. Our hearts have been a bit convicted about how we treat the earth as a family, and how we might make a little difference in our lives, so that our children can enjoy the earth and our children's children! God created the earth for His glory and is allowing us to live on it. The least we could do is take care of it while we're here :)
So, we've done a few things around our home, and want to do more, but we're excited about being just a little more green around here :) Here's a few things we've learned:

1. bringing our own bags when shopping-not just groceries; Target, Macy's (yeah, you might get a funny look, but oh well!)
2. creating a food recycling bin for our food scraps-dump them into our yard waste bin. (be sure to find out what items you CAN'T dump for your neighborhood)
3. using non-toxic products for cleaning-lots of brands are coming out with natural ingredients. OR you can make your own.
4. going to cloth diapers-we've just recently ordered some Bum Genius diapers from Angle Bunz
5. collect rain water to water our outdoor garden & plants.
6. purchasing energy efficient appliances.
7. planting native plants around your home to bring in local butterflies, bees and other wildlife to pollinate.
8. creating a compost pile (rather than recycle food, you can dump it into a compost for fertilizer for your garden!)
9. go paperless for bills AND sign-up for that junk mail to go bye-bye!

Wow! As I look all over the internet, there are so many more ways!! This website had a lot of great tips and resources for being a little more green. Check it out!!

Happy Earth Day everyone :)

I'm so glad you posted a link to get rid of junk mail. I had been searching for that online and hadn't really found a good one :)

Wish we could do a compost bin around here, but I have a feeling it would leave Tom's "office" a bit stinky!

Thanks for the list & esp the junkmail site- I'm going to try it & see if it works :)
You'll have to let me know how you like the bumgenius diapers- we got those a little while ago, too. I love them (except that poopy ones aren't too fun!)
