Well, I don't know if it's silly of me to say, but I'm very excited about the sermon's to come.
Ecclesiastes is one of my favorite books. I think it's because I read it one time when it was just right. Do you know what I mean? It's as if God lead me to it and it totally spoke to my heart, during that time of my life. If it where any other time, it may have made me mad. But with that experience, I now read it with new eyes, and I'm all the more excited that Richard will be preaching on it for a time.
What is our ultimate goal here? Well, I'm glad to say it's not to stuff our brains with 'everything under the sun', thanks be to God, (though I believe this would be easier to do rather than what we're called) but to 'Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.' Ecc 12: 13 & 14.
I believe this weekend's sermon is on the follow verses. Hope to see you at church this Sunday:
Wisdom Is Meaningless
12 I, the Teacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem. 13 I devoted myself to study and to explore by wisdom all that is done under heaven. What a heavy burden God has laid on men! 14 I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.
15 What is twisted cannot be straightened;
what is lacking cannot be counted.
16 I thought to myself, "Look, I have grown and increased in wisdom more than anyone who has ruled over Jerusalem before me; I have experienced much of wisdom and knowledge." 17 Then I applied myself to the understanding of wisdom, and also of madness and folly, but I learned that this, too, is a chasing after the wind.
18 For with much wisdom comes much sorrow;the more knowledge, the more grief.

Mark and I loved the sermon last week too. I kept finding myself nodding my head. We had fun sitting next to you on the floor-- until your crazy nursery pager went off-- those things are loud!
See you Sunday!
